I've been doing concept design for some educational software, ages 8-12 (the infamous Tweens). This latest batch of characters I tried three different styles to see which direction we wanted to go. Which is your favorite?
Style 1:
Style 2:
Style 3:

I like the third style, the characters seem "cooler".
the three stiles are awesome but i love the first one
saludos from mexico
All are nice, but I'm going with #3. #1 looks like it would animate easily in Flash though. You are a superstar!
love your character style!! Great set of drawings!!
I'm just a random visitor encountering your site in passing, so take this with what grains of salt you will, but I like the second ones best. They have the most presence and personality, and they're not too cool for school. All three are very crisp and fun, though. Lovely work.
While I don't know how the software is going to be produced, I'm sure Style #1 would be more conducive to being produced in Flash.
I think that Style#3 seems too old for this age group, meaning the characters look like they're teenage to me.
I like Style 2 the best.
my 2¢
Like #3 best. #1 looks like it would be easier to animate in Flash though. Like the purple hair girl. You are a superstar!
A superstar I tell ya.
Pick which ever one you like best.
Pick which ever one you like best.
Style 1 is loose, style 2 is bold, and I'm really likin' the soft illustrative feel on style 3. It's just right.
I think they all look good. My favorite though is #2. The purple girl is my favorite in all 3 choices.
I like the middle one the most but the 3rd one looks more like high school kids
#3.
It's the most "Marynish" of them all. But something tells me that's not what your bosses are looking for. :(

S2 I like the most, perhaps the faces are most expressive ...
but perhaps older kids would prefer S3 as characters seem a bit more mature ...
S1 might be too flashy and plain looking for younger kids...
I like all three very much though... but think that 2 or 3 would drag me into story ( if there is such thing in the software) better ...
G.
They are all great! Style #3 makes the kids look very very cool.
Style 1! :)
The first style is cool and FUNKY, but kids being kids will probably like the the 3rd style most (attitude!). awesome job.
honestly, my first impression is that
style 1: for web or kids' picture book
style 2: for tv programme "cartoon"
style 3: for comic
i guess it depends on what content of educational software to match the style. Since the target audience is kids, it would be mostly likely style 1 or 2, in my opinion. :)
style 1!
I like 1, too!
the top ! the top one ! is where its at.

These are fantastic. Love you illustration and design.
#3! I'm 35 though, so I don't think I'm your target audience. Of course I'm the mother of a nearly tween, so that is a factor. Found your blog via Drawn!, and I really love what I see here, you have an amazing talent.
its hard to decide, but style 1!
I'm digging style 1 - cool, but not too cool.
One or Three, I think.
I believe the 8-12's would respond better to #3, perhaps. #1 is ace, but I feel it is a little younger, or for big kids like me.
Woo!
I'm really enjoying your work. since you asked, I'd have to vote for #3, but they're all great.
I loove #3...They are a little more cute and loveable...but the others rock as well!!!
Both my 7 yr. old and 8 yr. old agree, group #3. If that helps any.
Wow - great stuff. I checked with my teen (a little old, but closer than I). She likes #2!
All three are very strong and different. I think I like number 3 the best. It feels slightly more polished and detailed than the other two. Great job all around though. I love your style.
the bottom one is muy favourite the "kid teens" desngn.
good luck
#3!
I like them all. My first inclination was #1, but I decided I like #2 even better ... but your target age group would respond, I think, to #3: a little more sassy & independent. What a talent you have!
I like style 2 best, followed by 3. Style 1 appeals to ME most, but I'm late-twenties. Two reminds me of, without being too similar to, The Weekenders, which is a cartoon for the same demographic.
All three are wonderful, though.
i'll go with style # 1
The first one. DEFINITELY the first one.
Brilliant work by the way. I admire your style.
Surprisingly, the 1st one really stands out, simple, clean, without outlines. Very stylistic. After some thought, the 3rd one could be more refined and might be suitable more for your target.
2nd one is the style I am personally dislike, maybe too much of it on TV.
1st one is really my favourite, probably the way you really develop the character on it.
I am 3D CG artist and saw lots of 3D shaded characters these days, it's refreshing to see more stylistic beautiful characters.
Thanks everyone! And keep voting if you haven't. I'll post the official results once we get the surveys back from some schools we sent it to.
Style 1 is the best!
Without the outlines, the characters really stand out!
Definitely self-colored lines!
It's tough...they're all great. I'm waffling between 2 & 3....mmmm....let's go with....3, no 2...no wait....3.
Hey, next time don't make them all so good. It was tough deciding. Whew!
3! pick 3! If you want the kids to pay attention treat them like grown ups. I turned a teenager 2 years ago nd my brothers a tween and we both say pick 3.
I love 2 aswell though.
At first I thought 2, then realizing the "tweens" always wanting to be a little older than they are you should definitely go with 3. They are cool and charming.
#1 is definitely the best.
#1 for me as well!
although the third one isn't bad either...
Of course, No. 2 reminds me more of the cartoons my 11 year old son watches on TV. While personally I like 3, 2 is more mainstream.
I like all of them but my fav is number 1! pick it cuz it looks great. lol i only didnt like 3 becuase the pink girl didnt match with the others but oh well and number 2 is kinda like bratz haha lol anyways gl
